[Announce] Saturday, July 7: Strenuous harbor crossing

Ahoy'all,

Because we have two Hell Gate crossings planned for coming weeks,
volunteers of the LIC Community Boathouse have decided to head south
tomorrow instead of paddling to City Island. We'll be launching at 6AM
from Anable Cove (see our DIRECTIONS section) and paddling to either
Snug Harbor Cultural Center (www.snug-harbor.org) or Port Liberte (a
canal community in NJ), with a stop for a photo op at the Wunder Bar:

We should be back by dinner time, and more importantly, to catch
volunteer Klaus Schoenwiese's slide show of photos taken by AIDS orphans
he recently worked with in Africa (http://www.tribeofman.com/zambia/) at
the Meat Space Gallery (a project of volunteer John McGarvey --
http://www.meatspacegallery.com).

THIS IS A DIFFICULT TRIP. YOU WILL BE TIRED AND PERHAPS A BIT BLISTERED
ON YOUR PALMS. WE ARE CROSSING THE OPEN HARBOR AND MUST STAY CLOSE
TOGETHER FOR SAFETY. A WESTERN WIND MIGHT CAUSE CHOP, AND COULD SLOW OUR
TRIP OUT. BRING SUNBLOCK, A HAT, DRY CLOTHES OR WEAR QUICK DRYING
MATERIALS (COTTON IS THE WORST), SNACKS, WATER, A MARINE RADIO IF YOU
HAVE ONE, AND GOOD SPIRITS (NO, NOT ALCOHOL).
