Due to potentially dangerous levels of bacteria in the water from raw sewage dumping into the Hudson River as a result of a treatment plant fire taking the plant offline, area boat houses–including the LICCB–are canceling programming for the weekend.

The plant located on the Hudson River between 135th and 149th Street remains offline at this time while repairs are made.  Some untreated sewage is being diverted to other plants through emergency sewer work, but levels of bacteria are high enough for the DEP to advise complete avoidance of any contact which carries the risk of ingestion of the water, including recreational paddling and rowing.
