Greetings from 2011 Chair-Elect Victoria Olson
Please join me in welcoming the 2011 season of LICCB activities with good cheer!
We’ve made some changes in the governing structure of the LICCB with the aim and goal of creating a stronger base for operations, making leadership more accessible the the increasingly diverse interests of the community, and spreading the load of decision making to better serve larger numbers of individuals interested in playing on the water with the LICCB.
LICCB membership has agreed to a governing body consisting of a number of elected persons. It is being called the Steering Council, to reflect its role in thoughtful governance and responsiveness to prevailing conditions.
8 volunteers were chosen by general election of the boat house community in December. The original number designated was 7, but there was a tie for 7th place. Both volunteers in that tie were called to serve, and answered the call.
The 8 members of the Steering Council are: Jim Brennan, Robert DiMaio, Stephen Ellis, Ted Gruber, Dave Matten, Wes Miller, Victoria Olson, and Monica Schroeder.
Our focus for this season is consolidation of our existing strengths. LICCB’s growth for the past two seasons under the stewardship of former chair Ted Gruber is impressive. Under Ted’s leadership, LICCB has become even more a welcome presence on the waterways, participating in diverse community events, fortifying our ties in the boating community, and providing enjoyment and better awareness of natural New York to thousands of residents and visitors alike.
Our expansion has not been without its pressures, yet Ted rose to the challenges magnificently, and we are pleased and relieved that he has agreed to be a part of the new governing structure.
As we gel and collate our operating principles and style, we will keep open the lines of communication with the general membership–of which we are decidedly a part. The Steering Council is designed to respond to diverse interests, take advantage of our assets as a community source and resource, and bring a variety of talents to the table.
In the coming days and weeks, visitors to the website will see additional ways to direct concerns, issues, praise, suggestions, comments and contributions. We are creating dedicated addresses to receive and process input.
Join us in our excitement for the season and beyond for the LICCB!
Best,
Victoria Olson
