POPOLOPEN/PEEKSKILL FESTIVAL & FIREWORKS TRIP

A spectacular day, not to be missed!

Peekskill’s Annual Festival occurs August 6th & 7th with fireworks on the night of Saturday, the 6th. This year, as last year, we will be paddling with members of YPRC, HRCKC, and the Long Island City Community Boathouse.

If you’re up for this day into late evening trip, meet us at the Annsville Paddlesport Center on Saturday.  Be ready to launch by 11:00 AM.
Driving Directions at: www.atlantickayaktours.com

We will head 3-4 miles up river and explore Iona Island, go past Bear Mountain Pier, under Bear Mountain Bridge into Popolopen Gorge. Four bridges converge there so it’s great for photos.  Plus, there’s a beautiful waterfall and natural 20′ deep pool beckoning to you at the end. This is the best swimming spot on the Hudson!

Bring a hiking pole to assist the short walk over the boulders.
Those who wish to hike up to the Bear Mountain Inn and Trail side Zoo and Museum may do so.

At a prearranged time, we will leave Popolopen for our return trip down river 3-4 miles, landing at the Peekskill Festival, where there is food and drink, with bands and vendor booths etc.

We also may decide to have a Kayak Skills Session just off the beach for interested parties.

At around 9-9:30pm, we will install lights, get back in our boats and launch from the beach into the bay to watch the Fireworks with musical accompaniment, which will be shot off of a barge directly in front of us. We’ll have the best seats for the best fireworks show on the Hudson! After the show, we’ll paddle a very short distance back to Annsville.

This will be at least a twelve hour day for you.  You will probably be arriving home after 11:00 PM to Midnight.

Remember, there are two crossings of the Hudson involved so we will cross en masse.
