Kayaking at Stuyvesant Cove
Public kayaking will soon come to Manhattan’s eastern shore. This project has been years in the making. Join us this Sunday to see the progress and take a tour around the cove. Even better – sign up as a volunteer! Read on for opportunities to kayak and to volunteer this weekend!
Sun June 28, 8:30a – 11:30a, One Way Trip from Anable to Stuyvesant Cove
Join our awesome flotilla to bring boats across the river to Manhattan for the Stuyvesant Cove afternoon walk-up paddling event. Total on water time will be approximately 90 minutes. This is an easy-to-moderate one-way trip from Anable Basin in Queens to Stuy Cove in Manhattan. Participants will be responsible for their own transportation home from 23rd St and Ave C (one option is the East River Ferry from E 34th St), or may request spots on the evening return paddle back to Anable Basin in Long Island City. Paddlers on this trip are strongly encouraged to stay and volunteer at the Stuyvesant Cove walk-up paddling event which runs from 11:30 to 2:30pm. Request a spot on this trip here: Trip Request.
Sun June 28, 11:30a – 2:30p, ** Volunteer Opportunity** Stuyvesant Cove Walkup
People wanting to volunteer at the Stuyvesant Cove walk-up paddling event should indicate their intention to volunteer by filling out this form: LICCB volunteer sign up. When volunteering at a community-sponsored event or “walkup”, visit the waiver table and add your name to the volunteer attendance sheet so you get credit for your day with us! Volunteers get priority on river trips. The most active volunteers may qualify for volunteer-only trips.

Thank you Volunteers!
The last 2 weeks have been chock full of adventure. We enjoyed a well attended public trip to the Brooklyn Bridge then had a scenic volunteer paddle to Red Hook which included a rigorous jaunt to the environs of the Statue of Liberty. Landside, we had very productive meeting of our Data committee. The Data Committee takes all those waivers and analyzes the numbers for info to use during future events. We also had 3 boathouse work parties which resulted in a cleaned refrigerator, scrubbed boats, a hose installed, lights prepped and ready for night trips! Thank you to the committee members, the work party crews and to walkup kayaking event volunteers! We couldn’t do this without you.
Louis Kleinman says:
“Our Friday night trip with The Waterfront Alliance was one of the major reasons the LICCB exists. It was a wonderful social event. Starting in daylight and ending at night, paddling on one of the finest evenings in the year, socializing in the water, then with our friends at NBBC at their barbecue and finally on the roof of our boathouse: No one could ask for more.”
Thanks to Ted Gruber of the LIC Boathouse and to Louis Kleinman of both the LICCB and the Waterfront Alliance for their work in arranging The Waterfront Alliance Kayak Trip. Many thanks to Willis for food and setting up the barbecue and providing so much North Brooklyn Boat Club hospitality.
