Oysters provide amazing ecosystem services including filtering water, attenuating wave energy and providing habitat for other marine species. LICCB maintains three oyster cages off the dock at Anable Basin Bar and Grill. The cages are part of the Billion Oyster Project's citizen science program, whose goal is to restore one billion oysters to the New York Harbor through engagement of students and community members. Duties include measuring oyster growth, counting other marine species found among the oysters in the cages and monitoring the water quality of the site.
