Thank you Volunteers!
The long holiday weekend was great. Chef Bob launched the first BBQ of the season and new volunteers received Orientation Day II. Thank you to all of the volunteers who came by to help out. Some didn't even paddle, but helped us prepare for and launch trips. Volunteers came by the boathouse to do some admin work. A one hour meeting was very fruitful. Your time with us is highly appreciated. A big round of applause to the many of you that helped out at Hallets Cove this weekend! We're ready for Opening Day

This Sunday we host our second Volunteer Orientation. Join us as a volunteer and get priority on trips throughout the season. Guests are invited to join us at 4601 5th street at 10:15am. Volunteers should arrive at 9:45a. All participants must be 18 or over and able to swim. Actual time on the water will be about 90 minutes. Wear clothing and footwear that can get wet, and a hat, sunblock or other suitable protection from the sun. Bring a windbreaker and water or other non-alcoholic beverage. Do not bring bulky items or anything that cannot go with you in a kayak. Wallets, phones or other electronic devices should be placed in waterproof bags. This trip ends on the Hallets Cove beach just north of Socrates Sculpture Park. Participants are encouraged to stay and help as LICCB Volunteers at our free public walk-up paddling program. Volunteering is fun, easy and rewarding -- no experience necessary! There is no charge for this event. Contributions enable LICCB to continue to offer public paddling programs and are gratefully accepted.
Sun May 24 - Hallets Cove Walkup - 1pm to 4pm - no reservations required!
Come to Vernon Blvd and 31st Avenue (just north of Socrates Sculpture Park) for free kayaking or canoeing. No reservation, no experience needed. All ages are welcome, but minors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participants must be able to swim. Wear clothing and footwear that can get wet. Here's how it works: Sign a waiver (minors' waivers must be signed by a parent or guardian). Receive a hand stamp, wait to be called to the beach. One of our volunteers will assist you in choosing a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) and a paddle and will assign you a boat. Stay within the boundaries established by our buoys and patrol boats. Return to the beach after 20 minutes, return paddles and PFDs, and leave the beach promptly so we can accommodate the next paddlers. Have fun! Notes: Singles may be paired with another paddler, or (on request) with one of our experienced volunteers. Children under 16 must be paired with an adult. If it is necessary to cancel due to dangerous weather, unsafe water quality or other circumstance, a cancellation notice will be posted on this calendar two hours before the scheduled starting time. Donations enable LICCB to continue to offer public paddling programs and are gratefully accepted. New volunteers are always welcome!
